After the age of 35-40, some changes in the eyelids and eyebrows cause our face to look more tired and old. It changes earlier or later, especially genetic factors and environmental influences such as sun damage.
Excess skin. The eyelid skin is a very thin skin. After the age of 35, especially with the effect of gravity, our eyebrows and forehead move downwards. With this effect and the loss of elasticity of the skin over time, excess skin occurs especially in the upper eyelid and lower eyelid. Excess skin on the upper eyelid sometimes falls below the upper eyelid border and even makes it difficult to see.
Swellings. The eyeball, which is our visual organ, sits inside a fat pad. Under the upper eyelid and lower eyelid skin, this fat pad is surrounded by a thin membrane. Again, due to the loosening and weakening of this membrane layer, swelling occurs on the lower and upper eyelids, causing a sleepless, tired appearance. In fact, these swellings around the eyes are the forward bulging of the fat layer.
Many factors such as excess skin on the lower and upper eyelids, loss of elasticity of the skin, and sun damage cause fine wrinkles to form.
Dropping of eyebrows. The downward displacement of the eyebrows also increases the excess of the upper eyelid skin. Lifting eyebrows is usually done together with upper eyelid aesthetic surgeries and the result is more successful.
In upper eyelid aesthetic surgery, excess skin and muscle are usually removed from the upper eyelid. The upper eyelid is opened and the eye appears brighter. The excess fat that is herniated and causes the eye to appear swollen is removed, and the sagging tear gland is moved up to provide a younger appearance.
A scar is formed in the early period after this surgery. Since the skin of the upper eyelid usually heals very well, this scar becomes a very thin white line after about 3 months and heals so well that it cannot be noticed by someone else even up close. Bad scarring is very rare. I have never met in my professional life.
Multiple incisions and types of surgery have been described in lower eyelid aesthetic surgery. In the classical type of surgery, an incision is made under the eyelash edge and excess fat, skin and muscle are removed from this incision and the eyelid is stretched. The most important risk associated with this surgery is the risk of loss of eyelid level.
I have rarely used this method in recent years. As a surgical technique, I prefer eyelid aesthetic surgeries made with incisions made from the inside of the eyelid. Thus, there is no trace on the outside, and the risk of loss of level of the eyelid is almost eliminated. A very reliable method when done carefully. It almost completely corrects the bagging on the lower eyelid. Since you do not remove the skin in this surgical technique, I make the skin look more taut and fine wrinkles by chemical peeling. If there is a depression or groove where the bone frame is, the result is more successful when simultaneous fat injection is made there.
Although these operations may seem like minor interventions, since the skin on the eyelid is very thin and therefore easily swollen, it takes 15 days for the edema to go away. In the first 3-4 days, very serious edema occurs and it may be possible to start working life with dark sunglasses after 5-7 days. At the end of the 1st month, the normal appearance will be greatly approached, but you will have slightly thick eyelids and slight red marks. At the end of the 3rd month, someone who does not know you cannot understand that you have had surgery.
Both lower eyelid and upper eyelid aesthetic surgeries can be performed with local anesthesia. You can go home after surgery without hospitalization.
